Original Oil Paintings Have Been Lost But Never Forgotten

Original Oil Paintings Have Been Lost But Never Forgotten
Oil painting is known as an form of art that traces back centuries and was used as a means of decoration for such things as famous estates, castles and also the home of some commoners. Many very famous artist of their time used oil painting to help capture scenes throughout history, politics, religion and art. So many of these original oil paintings can be seen to this day in hundreds of museums around the globe.
It is said that oil painting has sadly become an art that was lost in time and a true skillful artist who is well versed with oil painting techniques is not really as common. Anyone can oil paint no matter if the person has education, experience or has any skill or not.
Long before cameras were invented people would pay an artist to paint a portrait of someone for a wedding anniversary gift, a birthday or as any unique gift for just about any other special occasion. With this type of painting it required a person to sit for many hours as the artist would then try to capture a scene as good as possible. The process proved to be quite tiresome for both the artist and the subject of the portrait.
European painters during the 15th century were the ones who were credited for the invention of painting on wooden panels with oil media. Also during the 15th century oil was made the painting medium along with exploring several uses of glazes and layers which was then followed by many others in Northern Europe.
Most paintings back then were on wood and it was at the end of the 15th century that the canvas became much more popular. It was less expensive and easier to carry around. The popularity of this type of painting began to spread as it went on through Italy in the north, with Venice during the late 15th century and by the year 1540 the older method of painting on a panel with tempera became extinct, no one really used it except for the Italians who did continue to use fresco for many wall paintings.
With modern technology portrait painting was nearly obliterated any need for sitting in the same position for several hours at a time. The newer digital age of art that you see today has gone on to be a big influence just about every artist that is known today.
Now if families or any groups of people who want to have an artist paint a portrait of them all, will only have to submit a photo to get an oil painting done as the artist will then just translate the photo to a canvas.
The once brilliant and beautiful art of original oil paintings has now become lost to the more convenience and the speed of the digital modern age as well as the hectic schedules and deadlines. However, many of the oil painting artist mostly are …

Artificial Intelligence to Create Abstract Art – Absolutely!

Artificial Intelligence to Create Abstract Art – Absolutely!
Have you ever looked at abstract art, and shaken your head, and said to yourself “I could do better than that,” well, maybe it’s because you really could? Indeed that has come to my mind on numerous occasions, and it turns out that third-graders are actually quite good at abstract art, and some of them are as good, or nearly as good as some of the top professional artists that win accolades the world over. Yes, it’s true that art is subjective, but; is abstract art really subjective?
It appears some computer scientists have used computational algorithms and software to prove that it isn’t actually subjective at all. In other words they have figured out a way to determine if abstract art is good, or if it is not. If you are an abstract artist, this might bother you, and if you are an art collector, you might just want to stop reading this article right now because I don’t want to be the one to tell you, or to offend your purchases at such high prices. Okay so, I’d like to discuss this for a moment if you will allow me to;
There was an interesting article not long ago on the MIT Technology Review Blogging Network “The Physics arXiv Blog titled “Measuring the Quality of Abstract Art – Abstract Artists Are Only 4% Better Than Child Artists, According to a Controversial New Way of Evaluating Paintings” which was posted by the famous KFC from MIT Blogger on June 14, 2011. Well, just by the title you can tell it was an intriguing article, and maybe you might want to go read it, but I’d like to use this opportunity to project another concept to you.
The realization that by creating AI software which can judge art in this way, it has rules for determining good and poorly done abstract art, thus, we can use these computer rules to create it as well. That is to say that now we know the methodology, and rules for determining the best abstract art, then all we have to do is use those rules while having the computer produce the best abstract works. In other words, we are about to put out of business all be Abstract Artists in the world, and fill everyone’s living room with brilliant masterpieces, that were not even created by humans.
Indeed, you will recall I did warn all the abstract artists, and the abstract works collectors above, because I believe this will change everything, and the human that beats the computer for the best abstract creation may just be a third grader. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.

Shaving Foam for Kids!

Shaving Foam for Kids!
When you hear ‘shaving foam for kids’ do you automatically think that is wrong and should be ‘shaving foam for men? What if I suggested using shaving foam for kids as part of their creative play? Before you start open out a black bin liner and cover the workspace you are going to use. Fix the black bag firmly to the table using masking tape. Put an apron on each child and roll up their sleeves. Pre-frame beforehand that they are not allowed to put the foam in their mouth or up their nose.
Pump a blob of shaving foam about the size of three tennis balls on the table in front of each child. Add in some poster paint. Poster paints are safe for children to use and non-toxic. Allow each child to choose the colour they want in the foam. Shaving foam stimulates many of the childrens’ senses. For example the smell of the foam is nice, maybe it reminds them of the smell of Daddy’s face after he has shaved. The texture of the foam is soft. As the foam is easily manipulated children will have lots of fun spreading it out on the table, making shapes with it, drawing letters and numbers in it.
Although the children are playing they are also learning. This is a relaxing game for them. When they are moving the foam around on the table they are using their imagination. Allow them to experiment with it. When they are making shapes and drawing letters they are developing their fine motor skills. Mixing different colours of poster paint into the shaving foam is another wonderful opportunity for the child to learn about colour. What happens when you mix blue and yellow paint in the foam? What happens when you mix red and white? It is also a good opportunity to encourage conversation about colours and what happens when they are mixed together.
Children gain great pleasure by discovering things for themselves. Introduce some lollipop sticks and some leaves and notice how the children use them to play. There are no limitations on their imagination. You will be absolutely amazed at the ideas and stories they will come up with. So, even though you are probably thinking this is a very messy activity and maybe too much trouble, why not give it a go? The children will love it and you will be blown away by their creativity. You can’t put a price on a child’s smile and laughter. So think fun, laughter and shaving foam!

Abstract art can be found in single piece paintings or in canvas art sets of 2 to 8 or more pieces. Tailor Your Home With Wall Art

Tailor Your Home With Wall Art
Wall art is a very broad term. It can simply be a family portrait, a painting of a historical landmark, or probably a painting, which can be done by an amateur or even a famous painter. Almost any kind of wall art can be placed inside one’s home. However, not all of them would blend in with the interiors. Choosing which ones do blend is an important step when one is acquiring any wall art. Another equally important step is finding out how to use wall art to define your very home.
A wall art can transform any room in your house. Here are some of the ways how you can utilize art to change your home:
1. Quickly change the mood of the room through wall arts. Colors can represent mood and choosing a dominant color in any room would definitely change the mood of the whole room. You can choose a art that has a lot of pastel shades or you might want to make it bolder by getting loud and solid colors. Not only the color but also the content of the art. For the kitchen, you might want getting still paintings of fruits or vegetables, just to show that the area is concerned with food.
2. Play with memories using arts. One of the fastest ways to make others remember the past is show them a blown up photo of an event. These can be used as wall art as well. Select a suitable photo for any room and have it blown up and framed. For example, for your children’s room, you might want to show pictures of the baby having his or her first steps. For the living room, you can have a portrait of the whole family. These art materials set the tone of any given room.
3. Change a dull wall into a wall full of life. It doesn’t necessarily have to be an artwork based on something that’s real. It could be an abstract work of art. These art works simply brings life to any home. Or if you are into natural things, why not choose from the different flowers, plants, or areas around the world that are associated with specific areas and time? Sunflowers are well known during the summer season, the red and gold foliage for fall, and of course, the mountain peaks and their snow caps showing that it is winter. With the right piece of art, you can bring life to any room.
If you are looking to brighten up and set the tone of any room in the house, you might want to check out the many different arts available both online and offline. Setting the mood and defining any room in the house just became a whole lot easier with wall arts.

The Brave Art Teacher: Making the Contemporary High School Art Class Relevant to Your Students

The Brave Art Teacher: Making the Contemporary High School Art Class Relevant to Your Students
We teach in contemporary, not modern times. This realization requires a transformative pedagogical approach to the teaching of high school art. The term “modern” leads people to believe that whatever stems from it is cutting-edge and alive. However, in art terms, modern is of the past — and contemporary is of today.
For instance, Matisse and Picasso, two “modern” artists who work in different “styles” are no longer at the cutting edge of contemporary culture. While both men were art mavericks in their own right and spoke to the issues of their times, they are not our contemporaries — and dare I say — they are largely of little relevance to contemporary teenagers. Of course, I do not advocate that we entirely erase their (or the canon’s) contribution to art’s history – but I surely don’t see them as the most inspiring artists for teens to be exposed to. There are plenty of contemporary artists who talk about the critical issues of today such as sustainability, body image, spirit, consumption; who use contemporary media such as video, sound, and installation; and who make art for public and/or personal reasons. Your high school art students see artists such as these as much more relevant to their lives.
Henry Warwick, an interdisciplinary artist and professor, contextualizes “culture today” as in an “eternal contemporary” condition – a sort of schizoid hypermodernity void of the lulls that past eras have provided. For example, between approximately 600 and 1400 in Western Europe, art, music, and fashion changed little during a time of absolute church authority. The era between the 1400’s to the mid 1800’s showed little change at first. However, as European (and later, American) society changed its energy base from solar and renewable sources (such as wind, water, human and animal power) to exponentially more powerful fossil or nonrenewable fuels (first coal, then oil and natural gas and nuclear), it naturally accelerated the exchange of signifiers of social change. From there, we jump into the Industrial Age to the Technological to the Conceptual Age and smack into the Eternal Contemporary. This era’s mode makes sense if you think about how quickly fashion comes in and out of favor: shoes, music, make-up, news, politics, cultural musings, technology and industry quickly change.
In other words, extended eras of living are gone as the contemporary is eternally moving – and our curriculum must move too! Within an eternal contemporary construct, we cannot expect last school year’s curriculum to be relevant to this year’s students. High school art teachers can embrace the challenge of the “new” and explore the plethora of art materials, ideas and artists available to students about contemporary art and the people/world that produces it. After all, isn’t exploring what artists do?

The Northern Lights on a Canvas

The Northern Lights on a Canvas
The northern lights are a unique phenomenon. They have inspired painters from Canada and Alaska throughout human history. Painting the Northern Lights is considered a genre of its own. The Aurora Borealis is liked by both traditional artists and those that tend to prefer Modernism. People that enjoy long vacations can sign up for an art class and learn how to paint the Aurora first hand.
Paul Gauthier is a very talented artist. He is not only a painter, but a photographer as well. Gauthier’s passion for the arts can be compared to his passion for preserving the beautiful Canadian nature. Paul Gauthier’s Northern Lights was painted in 2003, and it is a very vivid representation of the gorgeous night’s sky. The landscape provides a view of tall mountains straight ahead that are reflected in a lake’s water. The Aurora is reflected in the lake as well. Gauthier is a recognized artist. Some of his work is purchased by Texaco, Bank of Montreal, the Canadian branches of IBM and GE, Meryl Lynch, Sears, and others. In 1991, Paul Gauthier received an award for his artistic and cultural contribution to the community.
Larry Wowk is another great Canadian painter that knew how to appreciate and recreate the Northern Lights. Unfortunately, Wowk passed away in 2009, but his paintings reveal a passionate legacy about capturing the Aurora lights on canvas. Wowk was a master of oil on canvas paintings. In order to create the Northern Lights, he used an airbrush.A
Some artists prefer to have a Modernist approach when painting the Borealis. Scott Adami is a United States painter who does wonders with acrylics. His painting Aurora Borealis is acrylics on canvas. Adami has chosen to combine strong colors with very elegant brushwork. Even though this is unusual abstract art a viewer can almost see how the Northern Lights move in the night’s sky changing their form. Scott is the creator of many incredible works with bright colors and unmistakable style.A
Another gorgeous representation of the Northern Lights is that of Rani Priya Mullane. The artist has completely captured the essence of the Northern Lights in the painting Cold Aurora Lights. The landscape art is created from a frozen lake and a gorgeous fantasy forest.A
Painting the Northern Lights requires a lot of skills. First of all, knowing how to properly recreate a landscape is a must. A second skill is dealing with the lights themselves. Some artists prefer to use an airbrush in order to create a more realistic effect. Painters who spend time in the north cannot resist the temptation of painting the Lights. Everyone sees these lights in his or her own way. However, thanks to every artist’s unique talent, people can purchase a painting and enjoy the spectacular display for themselves.
Of course, a beginner artist can try his or her skill by trying to paint the Northern Lights. This can be done with oil paints or acrylics, since they have the …
